Celebrating the life of
Kay Frances Sherrod Gay
November 09, 1935 - February 23, 2025

Kay Frances Sherrod Gay, 89, passed away on February 23, 2025 after a long illness. She was the daughter of John W. Sherrod and Alice Grissette Sherrod. She was a Savannah native and lived in Savannah her entire life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 1/2 years Edward Mouzon Gay, a brother John W. Sherrod Jr., a sister Joyce Horne, and son in law James E. Strong.
She is survived by her son, Edward M. Gay Jr. (Sheryl) of Savannah and her daughter, Fran Perrault-Strong of Athens; sisters, Marion Clark of Snellville and Lynn Wilson of Rincon; and brother, Ricky Sherrod of Midway. She had three grandchildren, Sara Cozart (Joe) of Okinowa, Japan, Joshua Gay (Rainey) of Richmond Hill, and Taylor Perrault of Athens. She had three great-grandchildren, Ben Cozart, Danny Cozart, and Franklin Gay. In addition, she had numerous nephews and nieces.
Kay was a retired enrolled agent and tax consultant for H&R Block of Savannah for 40 years. Her expertise in taxes resulted in her both teaching tax regulations yearly to H&R Block agents and in processing the most complex executive taxes. In addition, she was a long term member of Cresthill Baptist Church where she served as the church’s bookkeeper for years. Later, she became a member of the Bull Street Baptist Church family. Up until her death, she was known as one of Bull Street’s “Good Sisters”.
In the last few years of her life, she experienced many health challenges and resided in the care of Riverview Health and Rehabilitation Center. Many thanks to the staff who cared for her and attended to her needs.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the Good Sisters of Bull Street Baptist Church at 1400 Bull Street, Savannah, GA 31401.
A graveside service will be held on February 26, 2025 at 12 noon in historic Bonaventure Cemetery.
To Fran and Eddie, I feel like I know you as I am a friend and canasta buddy of your Aunt Marion. I am so very sorry for the loss pf your dear Mother. May you find comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering and is in the comforting arms of our Lord. Love and prayers for the entire family.
